About Manitoba

Manitoba is a Canadian province and one of the Prairie provinces, located midway between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It is bordered to the north by the territory of Nunavut, to the northeast by Hudson Bay, to the east by Ontario, to the south by the U.S. states of Minnesota and North Dakota, and to the west by Saskatchewan. Manitoba is home to more than 100,000 lakes, including Lake Winnipeg, one of the world's largest bodies of freshwater. More than two-fifths of the province is forested. Winnipeg, Manitoba's largest city, is its capital. The province's name comes from a Cree word meaning "strait of the great soul," referring to the narrowing of Lake Manitoba at its center.
