The Freshman Program offers several pathways to choose from. Whether you already know German (German Track), would like to learn German (English to German Track), or even prefer English (English Track FeP) for your studies, the Freshman Program has an option for everyone! Every year, we prepare over 300 students from all over the world to study in Germany.

Our Freshman Program offers a wide range of courses and guarantees entry into a Bachelor of Business Administration or Engineering degree program. After you successfully complete the Freshman Program, we offer personalized preparation courses tailored to our partner university's undergraduate programs, giving our graduates the best chance of academic success.

Follow English to German

Final Exam: Freshman Institute Final Exam

Language: No prior knowledge of German is required.
The recommended minimum English level for admission to the Freshman Programme is IELTS 4.5 for applicants to FH Aachen and IELTS 5.5 for applicants to University Duisburg-Essen. English will be tested as part of the entrance examination and no certificate is required.
The new student program will be taught in English and German. German classes will help students make the transition from English to German.
The use of English and German as languages ​​of instruction at universities, as well as the details of the new student programme, vary depending on the partner university.

FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences

After completing the Freshman Program, students are guaranteed admission to one of the Internationally Oriented Studies (IOS) bachelor's degree programs at FH Aachen listed below and selected on the application form.
The language of instruction in IOS undergraduate programs is German language Therefore, intensive German lessons during the Freshman Program prepare students for the transition from English to German. We recommend that everyone take some time after graduation until departure to study German, for example at a language school or online. First-year students of IOS bachelor's programs are encouraged to take additional technical German lessons.
Option: Engineering
During the freshman program, students will be prepared in various technical subjects. Various subjects and intensive German language study for studies inSelected Bachelor's Degree Programs at FH Aachen or University of Duisburg-Essen These undergraduate programs are offered in engineering and natural sciences. We recommend that you thoroughly research the fields of study before selecting a program in your freshman program application.
Upon successful completion of the first year of the English to German language course, students will:Eligible for admission to only one of the bachelor's degree programs listed below. The offer letter confirms that you have been accepted to your bachelor's degree program and university. Please note that English to German courses cannot be changed between programs or universities.

University of Duisburg-Essen

After completing the new student project, students willGuaranteed admissionin one of the International Bachelor of Engineering (ISE) programmes at the University of Duisburg-Essen listed below and selected in the application form.
The language of instruction after completing the first year of the Bachelor's degree program (Freshman Program) at the University of Duisburg-Essen is: English in the first year and German in the final year of study Therefore, both languages ​​are taught during the bachelor's degree programme and students continue to study German in their first year at this university. We recommend that you take some time after your studies until your departure to study German, for example at a language school or online course.
important: Students of the University of Duisburg-Essen must have a mathematics grade point average of “2” according to the German grading system for the past three years, including the last two years of high school and the Freshman year. English follows FeP

The final assessment test is in English.

After completing the new student course
  • Students studying Business and Economics (W programme) interested in the Bachelor's degree programme Business Administration with Information Science taught in English at FH Südwestfalen/South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences are guaranteed admission. See details below.
  • Other students studying Business and Economics (W program) or Engineering (T program) can apply to any English-taught bachelor's degree program at a university in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany. You can find a list of available program options on the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) website: www.myguide.de/en
W Program (Business/Economics) For fields of study such as

FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences

If this option is selected, graduates of the W program will continue on to the following undergraduate degree programs after completing the Freshman Program (Guaranteed Admission!):
FH Südwestfalen Both undergraduate and postgraduate programs are offered entirely in English.

German track FeP

The final assessment exam is in German.

Language: Previous knowledge of German is required.
The recommended German language level for admission to the Freshman Program is at least B1 with a score of 90% or B2.
German will be tested as part of the entrance exam and no certificate is required.
Bachelor's and Master's degree programs are taught in German.
Options: Engineering (T Program), Business/Economics (W Program), Medicine (M Program)
Each university will determine which subject/final exam (Feststellungsprüfung) you must take for each bachelor's degree programme. Check the website of your chosen university to see which course (T-Course, W-Course or M-Course) in the FeP German language programme is appropriate for your chosen bachelor's degree programme.
After completing the Freshman Program, most students can apply to any university in Germany, but preferably in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).
